Understanding and Supporting Nonverbal Children with Autism

A complicated developmental disorder, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) causes difficulties with behavior, speech, and social interaction. The impact of ASD is extensive, affecting roughly 1 in 54 children, although every person's experience is different. For a great number of children with ASD, speech and language development is a major obstacle.

An estimated large percentage of kids on the autistic spectrum have difficulty communicating verbally. While some people may only be able to express themselves through limited language skills, others may be completely nonverbal. This communication variation can have a big effect on a child's learning, social interactions, and general quality of life.
