The journey to a Jain wedding begins well before the actual ceremony, marked by several pre-wedding rituals. One of the most popular is the Sangeet, where the two families come together for the music and dance, to welcome the young couple’s union. Another significant rite is the Jaan ceremony which is the groom’s party’s traditional way of proposing for marriage to the bride’s family. This process is usually followed by prayers and blessings to further highlight the spiritual role of the coming together. The charm of many of these pre-wedding rituals is in the creation of linkages and consolidation of all members of the family happy in formation of the days ahead.
