Guru Amar Das Ji, the third Sikh Guru, was born in 1479 in the village of Basarke near Amritsar. Despite being born into a Hindu family, his spiritual quest led him to embrace Sikhism at the age of 62 under the guidance of Guru Angad Dev Ji. Guru Amar Das Ji is revered for his profound contributions to Sikhism, including the establishment of important institutions and practices that unified the growing Sikh community. He introduced the system of Manji (seats of religious authority) to decentralize spiritual leadership and propagate the Sikh faith. Guru Amar Das Ji also emphasized the importance of Langar (community kitchen) as a means to eliminate caste distinctions, mandating that all visitors, regardless of status or creed, share a meal together before seeking his audience.
